PERSONAL COACHING
Coaching
is an ongoing relationship between a person and his/her coach, wherein the
coach helps the person create vision and goals for the future, and develop
strategies for achieving those goals. How
Does Coaching Differ from Counseling or Psychotherapy? Coaching
is for people who have a sense as to where they want to go in life, but
aren't sure how to get there.
It's for folks who either do not need, or aren't interested in
working through more serious emotional issues that might benefit from
psychotherapy. It's
appropriate for those who are interested in looking forward more than
backward. It's more about
taking steps to accomplish goals than resolving past hurts. It is more educationally based,
and focuses on doing and learning more than feeling. How
Does Coaching Work? While
there are many methods of coaching, and styles need to be flexible
according to a person's needs, we use the following
approach: 1.
The
Person and the Coach contract for two to four, 40 minute sessions per
month 2.
Sessions
can be done over the phone or in person 3.
The
coach assists the person in identifying goals, resources, and strategies
needed to reach the goals. 4. The coach helps the person
identify "next steps" between sessions 5. The coach supports the
person through accountability and monitoring of progress
toward goals Coaching
Can Help in a Number of Areas of Life People
use coaches to help in any number of areas of life. Coaches do not have to be expert
in each of the areas, however they do need to be skilled at supporting
people to reach their dreams.
Some of the areas that clients use coaches for
include:
Coaching
is a great way to gain support from someone whose only purpose when they
talk to you, is to help you accomplish your goals. Your coach will listen, clarify,
identify gaps and needs, help you identify resources, and support you as
you make changes. If you don't need the depth and intensity of counseling or psychotherapy, but still want some assistance in reaching your goals, coaching may be for you. Raphael
